چکیده

Digitally reconstructing a large and complex heritage site, particularly medieval castles, for documentation, research, and virtual reality simulation is a challenging task. Castles by design contain many lines of defense such as inner and outer rings of walls and are often located on high grounds, surrounded by water or forests. They also have protective entrances, towers, courtyards, and a mixture of large complex buildings. Although laser scanners have many advantages, they may be impractical for reconstructing an entire castle. They are not portable or fast enough and can generate a huge amount of data that is difficult to register and visualize in real time. Therefore, we set out to fully explore the potential of only image-based techniques for modeling castles. We captured aerial and ground-based images and used existing floor plans and limited surveying, which compelled us to develop a technique to assemble and integrate models made from different data sets. We will discuss the issues and problems associated with modeling castles, give details of our approach, and present and evaluate the results of modeling the Stenico castle in Trentino, Italy, as a test-bed. * Corresponding author

Error-concealed image-based rendering

Creating photo-realistic images has been one of the major goals in computer graphics since its early days. Instead of modeling the complexity of nature with standard modeling tools, imagebased approaches aim at exploiting real-world footage directly, as they are photo-realistic by definition. A drawback of these approaches has always been that the composition or combination of different sources...

3D Reconstruction of Dynamic Textures in Crowd Sourced Data

We propose a framework to automatically build 3D models for scenes containing structures not amenable for photo-consistency based reconstruction due to having dynamic appearance. We analyze the dynamic appearance elements of a given scene by leveraging the imagery contained in Internet image photo-collections and online video sharing websites. Our approach combines large scale crowd sourced SfM...

Based on Actual Images

Demand is growing for more realistic three-dimensional (3-D) image spaces that can enhance interpersonal communication. Existing 3-D image space systems are mainly based on computer graphics (CG); examples include Cybertown [1] and Interspace [2]. Unfortunately, the image spaces created by existing CG techniques are unnatural and certainly not attractive. There are two problems in creating phot...

Ultra-Fast Image Reconstruction of Tomosynthesis Mammography Using GPU

Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) is a technology that creates three dimensional (3D) images of breast tissue. Tomosynthesis mammography detects lesions that are not detectable with other imaging systems. If image reconstruction time is in the order of seconds, we can use Tomosynthesis systems to perform Tomosynthesis-guided Interventional procedures. This research has been designed to study u...

Artifact reduction techniques in Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) imaging modality

Introduction: Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) was introduced and became more common based on its low cost, fast image procedure rate and low radiation dose compared to CT. This imaging modality improved diagnostic and treatment-planning procedures by providing three-dimensional information with greatly reduced level of radiation dose compared to 2D dental imaging modalitie...
